While clearing through some old draft posts for a little new year clean up i came across this post I'd forgot about at the time...Huge apologies for that.
In Memory of Haydain Neale who passed on 22nd November. Wonderful voice, wonderful spirit....R.I.P.

A great limited 12" just right for the xmas party season is from Tom Noble reknown disco/soul/funk/j-pop re-editer. This tight little track is brought to us by the Peoples Potential Unlimited record label, containing two great edits. Apparently its an unreleased record by obscure mexican group called "Grupo Santa Cecilia"...wicked!

Back in 2001 (before i moved over here,) I came to Japan at the request of the Audio Sutra record label (can`t believe it`s nearly 10 years already) who had organised a 5 city "make love not war tour" taking in Tokyo/Hiroshima/Kumamoto/Okinawa/Sapporo...During that tour there was one beautiful piece of sublime wax that was undoubtedly the "tune of the tour"
Dropped into the mix by that prodigious DJ/Producer Ian Simmonds who accompanied and headlined the tour. Stacey Pullen`s"Vertigo" a tune once heard loud over a quality sound system, bristled your emotional responses big-time. With the angelic-style female vocals over a deep bruken beat & hypnotic landscape of strings, the resulting sonic soundscape is powerful yet delicate. (Pullen's claim that it reduced one listener to tears in the studio) Is something i can attest to, i saw many a watery eye on that tour after this tune was dropped.
(big props to my man @ innersounds who dug up a copy for me)
Another great guest mix this time from Musician/DJ/TeacherSoulspy Aka Max Schneider from uberkool Berlin. As well as producing music solo he also produces as one half of SoulPatrol in collaboration with Dj Michael Rutten releasing tracks on INFRACom & Compost records in Germany as well as providing music for the Nippon connection film festival.
With "Drums & Other Funky Patterns" Max delivers 76 minutes of pure jazz/funk joy!
Originally mixed quite a few years ago for a friend who wasn`t too partial to the music or so he thought....But with Max weaving his way thru such gems from Nina Simone, Max Roach, Prof Longhair and Eddie Bo, he undoubtedly became converted...Enjoy.
I`ve neglected the "GTF" for a while now so enough of all these bleeps and 4/4 grooves lets get back to some damn dirty ole FUNK....Ok! here`s a seriously funky joint from `72 released on the Blue Candle label..featuring the vocal talents of Robert Moore Jr, later to be lead vocalist of "Notorious Miami" an in-house soul/funk/disco band of T.K records. "Cramp Your Style" has got that raw gritty funk groove that i`m sure your all dig...enjoy
While trolling the youtube after yesterday`s post i came across this wonderful vid...Music is again from Tom Middleton from his "Lifetracks" LP from 2007. The video is produced by Ben Mason, using footage he shot on his travels in Japan..Love it! as it sets my mood right now as the Northern snow flakes are falling.
National holiday today here in Nippon and i`m feeling rather chilled and this just popped up in my musical subconscious. Written & Produced by Mark Pritchard & Tom Middleton AKA Global Communication, Link, E621, Reload, Secret Ingredients & Chameleon. "Maiden Voyage ep", released in `94 on the now de-funkted "Dedicated" label. From the rainforest intro, the tune just grooves along at a leisurely funky pace....Beautiful and just so right!
Tracklist; A1. Maiden Voyage (Original 8'07>5'23 Version) A2. Maiden Voyage (Spiritualized Electric Mainline Mix) Remix - J. Spaceman AA. Funk In The Fridge GLOBA 001T
Here`s a recent mytea@om mixtape to share courtesy of a lovely young friend and a sweetheart to boot Sayuri-chan....I made this up for her birthday and she has kindly given me permission to post it up for all of you guys & gals....so go on, indulge yourself in a little (winter or summer as the case may be) boogie around the house. Starting off with some percussive beats, gently into the dubby techno, thru the deep house and exiting with jazz..
Wow! The Man Gil Scott-Heron is Back. Monday night saw BBC Newsnight journalist Stephen Smith interview the legendary poet/musician and godfather of rap...see here, about his forthcoming brand new material to be released on XL recordings in early (10th Jan) 2010. To say i"m more than a little excited by the news, like a child waiting for Christmas is no exaggeration..Check here for a video of his new track "where did the night go"and a free download of the song....Big props to Richard Russell @ XL for pulling this off!....Can't wait.
Although they inspire a love/hate relationship with many in the electronic music scene, there is no doubt WARP records over the past 20 years have cut an imposing figure as one of the most influential independent record labels around. Already holding celebrational parties around the world, this weekend see`s the label take on TKO..in conjunction with electraglide. Including in the line-up is the man from the "Rotters Golf Club" DJ Andrew Weatherall, and new acts such as Hudson Mohawke and the psychedelic hiphop of Flying Lotus. I`ve always been a bit partial to Boards of Canada myself and this track from the recreated versions of Warp songs by Warp artists released on the box set that coinsides with the anniversary.
Over the next few weeks we will have some great new mixes to load up for your listening pleasure. A proper old jazz/funk masterpiece from Berlin/Germany, a sonic chilltastic mix from the don of ethnic electronic soundscapes Dj Pathaan , a brand new deep dubby tech-house mix and Vol.6 of the TWOTD series both from mytea@om HQ.
In a vintage soundtrack studio somewhere in Paris previously inhabited by the likes of Nina Simone and Serge Gainsbourg and many others. Mocky that chameleon-like cult figure of leftfield music, multi-instrumentalist playing drums, bass, rhodes, piano, guitar, percussion, bells, recorder, vocals, whistle, organ and toys as well as writing the string arrangements, produces a new future jazz/imaginary soundtrack/retro classic, that must be heard. Equally soothing for the winter months or basking on sun drenched beaches..enjoy!
"The Mockumentary" seeks to illuminate the conspiracy theories surrounding the musical identity of Mocky!.....
Tracklisting: 1. Music To My Ears 2. Little Journey 3. Birds Of A Feather 4. Golden Dream 5. Chubby Cheeks 6. Guiding Light 7. Saskamodie 8. Somehow Someway 9. Jiinti 10. Music To My Ears (Reprise) 11. Sleepy Time 12. For Pepecito CRAM140
"It's an exceptionally musical album-- there's no other word for it-- that could fail to seduce only the hardest of hearing, or the hardest of hearts." Pitchfork
1 boat, 8 dj's with no morals, a comedy about an illegal radio station in the North Sea in the 1960's...with the excellent Philip Seymour Hoffman , very funny....enjoy!
Another little break taken here at mytea@om, many things had to be organised before the long winter hibernation that is life here in these northern climes of Nippon...Also its good to take a back seat once in a while and evaluate everything with fresh enthusiasm...Hope you all didn"t miss it too much!
I had become a wee bit nostalgic while away, crawling thru some dusty old classics and came across this gem from the early 90`s...From the boys that defined progressiveness. The Professor (Neal Barnes) and Pauly D, AKA LEFTFIELD. It has and always will be one of my greatest pleasures to have known them personally....They even helped us out when I and 2 co-founders started our own independent dance record shop around the same period....(big respex always to you boys) This track was caned back then and could still get an airing today and give you goose bumbs!...Released on the Outer Rhythm label......enjoy!
As we move into that falling leaves time of year (well for some of us anyway) and today being my beautiful wife`s birthday, this post is dedicated to her.
22 year young LDN based producer Sam Shepherd AKA Floating Points, has been causing quite a stir this year. (check out his new Vacuum EP) An accomplished classically trained pianist since the age of 16, his jazzy synthed out retake of the early 80`s classic by Real To Reel - Love Me Like This is 8 minutes of pure future cosmic boogie/house bliss....Released on the UK`s EgLO/ r2 Records back in February, this track gets me all warm and fuzzy inside, a bit like my other half...Enjoy!
Tracklist A. Love Me Like This (Nonsense Dub) B1. Shangrila B2. Love Me Like This (Radio) R2022
After a little interruption in space & time, we`re back in the groove.
And this post is dedicated to my man down TKO way YAMASAN who`s moving into a new positive direction for his life........respex bro`
Lifted from his Capitol Records 1978 LP "New Warrior" but also released as a 7" promo..."groove, (aint no doubt about it)" is one of those tunes that used to rock the old london warehouse parties in the 8T`s.. As well as Keyboardist Lyle the LP was produced by Wayne Henderson and included a top A-list of players - Harvey Mason, Sunship, Paulinho Da Costa, Roland Bautista, Joe Blocker, Nathaniel Philips, David T. Walker and Michael Boddicker, plus background vocals by Ron Banks, Gregory Matta, Augie Johnson, Jim Gilstrap, Vance Tenort, Alexandra Brown, Angela Winbush, Martinette Jenkins and Stephanie Spruill...Pheww!
"New Warrior, reflect on the past, acknowledge the present and move forward with faith, helping to create tomorrow - that your song may be both a balm to a troubled world, and an inspiration to future warriors who will inherit your legacy."
The second choice porky prime cut this week and a second track from Connaisseur, is from Pol_On, called the "Omorp EP", on Outils Du Connaisseur. Pol_On are a project by Warsaw keyboard player DJ Mike P and Katowice Academy Of Jazz graduate and respected Jazz musician Kacper Bogacz. Their musical spectrum is present and wide, but always digs in and nods to the past. "After The Party" demonstrates Pol_On’s musical talent best. A smooth and timeless Jazzy House-cut with faultless live instrumentation. Once you hear the sax, it will stay in your head for ages…Double niceeee!!
Tracklist: A1 - After the party (6:24min) A2 - Omorp (6:19min) B - Omorp (catz n dogz first minute rmx) (7:07min) OUTILS004-6
A couple of fresh porky prime choice cuts for you this week, courtesy of the connaisseur recordingslabel outta Offenbach, Germany, Coming down the pipe via Beatport First up is Brendon Moeller and his "Big Shot EP". Big Shot dub features broken, almost dubstep-like beats, sub-basses and spacey atmospheres with quality high-level timbre rocking the spot....Niceeee!
Tracklist: a1: big shot dub (7:10min) a2: the boost (7:45min) b1: big shot (7:08min) b2: the urge (7:34min) CNS031-6
No it`s not the number of goals that an opposing team will score against my beloved football club later today, but a cracking tune from 1972 given a well deserved re-press by Atlantic in 2004. "getting uptown (to get down)" is the kind of tune that you just can`t keep still when the ole plug-holes hear these vibes. With the shakers, tambourine, horns, guitar, drums all mashing together in one fine damn funky groove....enjoy!
As we`ve reached the 8th anniversary of the 21st century’s most defining event so far, something to ponder from a couple of years ago but still relevent today.
The Elephant in the Room is a documentary following British filmmaker Dean Puckett through his journey into the 9/11 Truth Movement: a global movement of ‘alternative thinkers’ who believe that the official explanation about what happened on 9/11 is totally or partially inaccurate.
(The majority of the 9/11 Commission members have now publicly gone on record to express their conviction that the Bush government agreed to lie about the official story.)
The filmmakers travel from middle England, across Europe and to New York for the six year anniversary of the attacks, where the film takes one final twist as we are introduced to the 9/11 first responders who are suffering from various grave health difficulties due to the toxic dust that they breathed in trying to help their country during the weeks after this tragic event.
Told with a personal hands on approach that avoids advancing any one position, the film asks the question: are these crazy conspiracy thinkers? Or is 9/11 Truth a credible political movement?
Arguably one of the finest funk classics , The Eddy Jacobs Exchange "Pull My Coat", released on Columbia in `69 and later given a re-rinse on the Jazzman label, is a hard-groovin` drum snapping, JB`s styled number that has been smashing the underground funk & hip-hop scenes for years before 7" singles first started changing hands for silly money on t`interweb! (original copies going @ $125 large ones).....Enjoy!
Something fresh for the weekend...A recent discovery i made from a multi talented DJ/Producer/Film Maker/Synth player from the UK named Dj Bustawidemove is this rocking little skanking (as yet un-released) number called "fire in the dance" (check out his myspace page for more quality tunes)
Originating outta the East-Side of London, Bustawidemove has been djing and producing music for over 10 years. Coming from a DJ/Sound System background. He cut his teeth DJing "Jungle" in the mid 90's with ledgendary sound systems Exodus and Headfuck. Being a big fan of the UK steppers scene he put aside his jungle selection and turned to Reggae, regularly playing at Reggae Roast parties in London. He`s also a member of the Live band Step 13. Keep an eye on this guy cause there`s "big tings a gwan" from him in the future.
Busta has kindly allowed me to offer up the un-released tune here for y`all, so grab it while you can....respex my man!
He has been busy in the studio recently and is finally ready to step out with his own label wide dubz recordings . The first release "Soul soundmurder" featuring vocals from Lucy Randell (The Streets) is released on Monday 7th September from all good digital outlets....Already getting airplay on Radio 1/1Xtra in the UK.
Coming on the flipside of Timothy McNearly`s own SHAWN label track "Funky Movement No.2". The Laid back flutey funk of "Sagittarius Black" is in my humble mind so much better. The intro flutey swells helps the drum beat kick in while the wah wah and the piano electric keeps it chugging along...So simple so nice! Given a 2008 re-issue on US funky label Truth & Soul
Tonite we kick off what will hopefully be a monthly residency for me... Dj mark-n joins me for a "Journey thru the Dub" session, so if your in the area do pop in and say hi!......more later!
Something nice and minimal i will be dropping at new party starting this saturday nite called "DubNomAdic", where i get to play a 4 hour set spanning all genres of dubby music. Hopefully if all goes well, could be a regular monthly event,...nice!
Here we have Mr Claudio Mate a native of Sud Italia dropping a lush 8 minute Deep Dub Techno workout on the Dpress Industries label outta Barcelona. If your a fan of the Basic Channel sound you`ll love this...Enjoy!
The New York Record label ZE gets a richly deserved retrospective look back across its catalogue of mutant post-punk funk to warped disco from 1979 to 2009, Courtesy of Strut Records. ZE`s roster of artists was truly eclectic for the times, ranging from Suicide, Was (Not Was), Bill Laswell`s Material and Kid Creole.....And it`s this Kid Creole with COATI MUNDI track that always bring such memories for me bouncing around to DJock`s Jay Strongman & Mark Moore dropping the tunes at the Wharehouse club in London`s Electric Ballroom during the 8T`s....A big hit back in those days....Enjoy!
So it`s holiday season and what better way to while away the hours of rest & relaxation or partying on a beach somewhere to my August mixtape. A straight up deep & funky house mix....Enjoy!

Regarded as one of the greatest funk jams ever..Ernie Vincent Williams, the man behind Ernie & The Top Notes, Inc, wrote and produced "Dap Walk" in 1972... Original copies on Fordom changing hands on ebay for $500/600...Re-issued by Stones Throw Records on The funky 16 corners compilation.
A very interesting and thought provoking presentation by a simple and humble London carpenter...It relates to the UK, but it is also relevent to most countries around the globe....Not going to spoil any more, but this simply is,
As we have been delving into the funky soundtracks of 7T's
blaxploitation movies on here, word reaches mytea@om that the UK's Soul Jazz records massive will soon release a double CD/vinyl compilation titled Can You Dig it?"The Music and Politics of Black Action Films 1969-75" . Will post something about it later, but here we continue with the classic kung-fu movie starring bad-boy Jim 'Enter The Dragon' Kelly and Gloria Hendry.
This soundtrack is really one you should try and obtain a copy of, It has loads of amazing dialogue and fight sound effects woven into the funky instrumentals - The killer main theme track featured here with the sound effects version that always brings a smile to my face. A perfect soundtrack in my opinon!

A musical genre that`s sure to continue to grow and influence dancefloors worldwide....bless it up!
This here tune outta London from dj/producer Kromestar released on Fantastic 3 Recordings.....Its been doing the rounds on test press for nearly a year. With its bright horns riding the groove throughout inna old school stylee, "BloodClart" displays a proper skankable riddim that`s blowing up enuff dances....Love it! (Rumour has it that this producer will stop making 12" records...but i can`t believe it)
Following on from the "Rise Up" remixes from bristol dub artists Henry & Louis & record label 2kings, Mary Anne Hoobs a BBC1 radio dj has been down to the city to find out what`s happening with the dubstep scene there!
Today we have two remixes of Henry & Louis's massive Bristolian anthem 'Rise Up'Featuring vocalist Steve Harper. The first remix is by DJ Pinch considered the unofficial king of the bristol dubstep scene, coming inna superb minimal stylee.
The other mix is from RSD; (AKA Rob Smith) Veteran dub producer and one half of Smith and Mighty with a full on Steppas skank, that just nails it for me. Both released on the 2kings label...Essential sound system fodder!
