CutMusic have just released their 12th installment from Berlin based Roughquest. The 'hybred EP' is another solid released from the Edinburgh label and one sure to find itself into many a DJ set, from the low slung atmospheric start of 'outside of you' featuring one Jessie Grace on vocals, thru tha deep percussive tribalism of 'northern lights' and finishing off the journey with tha dubby techno of 'the menace'. The whole EP is an expansive exploration of rhythm and tech-styled melody....Recommended!

Knowledge

After the remergence of Belgium's R&S records from their self imposed 5 year hiatus as one of electronic dance music's more forward thinking imprints, comes the relaunch of their sister-label Apollo. From the early '90s through 2002 Apollo became one of the most respected labels in ambient techno, having released genre classics by such pioneering producers as Aphex Twin 'Selected Ambient Works 85-92', Jam & Spoon, Mixmaster Morris, Ken Ishii,  DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo and Biosphere among many others. The first release is by Mancunian producer Synkro aka Joe McBride titled 'Broken Promise', normally known for his high tempo deep bass driven music, here he slows right down with some beautifully delicate yet hauntingly sounding ambience. On the track ‘Knowledge’ he delves into tabla percusion with deep dubby pads that transports you off to some far away place! Recommended..

Synkro is also offering up a free track 'I miss you' (not on the EP) courtesy of halcyon

The creative CUT netlabel are back again on there 6th re;ease, pushing deep, low-slung, downtempo beats and percussion with glistening washes of synth that perfectly encapsulates that glow of the evening light, that slow burn of a setting sun, and that hint of the Summer coming to a close. Personal favorite being the track 'Dry'. Free download or just drop a little bit of coinage for the EP. Recommended.

Barbakan

A Summer house chugger for ya from Baobinga's Joint Ventures LP on his own Build Recordings. "Barbakan" Is in Colab with Mancunian producer xxxy ( remember him who gave us the sick Fela rework).In fact the whole LP is a collaboration with fellow forward thinking artists such as Hyetal, Geiom, Kowton, Gemmy & Guido. But here we get all wet & sticky with a tuff percussive, colour-soaked dance track for those lazy daze and drive thru's....Essential.

Feel For Bumps

Some more freeness from the quality CUT netlabel, now on release number 04 is the "Feel For Bumps EP" by Bristolian producer Bryn Thomas who brings us something a little more beats orientated. A simple mix of up-front soulful hip hop beats, borderline wonky, catchy synths and a sprinkle of downtempo vibes....always xcelent output from the stable and one that surely needs supporting in these difficult times...Drop some coinage for the EP on the bandcamp page.

Heavy As Stone.

There's some great new music already this year Gil Scott-Heron`s new LP that we`ll blog about soon and something that's just tickling all the right places in my soul right now....Mark Pritchard (Harmonic 313) as well as many other aliases delivers a shockingly wicked tune. The vocals remind me of something like a United Future Organization track from the 90's, but in fact sampled from the Archie Shepp - Song For Mozambique / Poem: A Sea Of Faces, Great uplifting lyrics....just loving this!...Forthcoming on Deep Medi Musik.

Funk in the Fridge

National holiday today here in Nippon and i`m feeling rather chilled and this just popped up in my musical subconscious. Written & Produced by Mark Pritchard & Tom Middleton AKA Global Communication, Link, E621, Reload, Secret Ingredients & Chameleon. "Maiden Voyage ep", released in `94 on the now de-funkted "Dedicated" label.
From the rainforest intro, the tune just grooves along at a leisurely funky pace....Beautiful and just so right!
