Film: Sound It Out!

A distinctive, funny and intimate film about the very last surviving vinyl record shop in Teesside, in the North East of England. Over the last five years an independent record shop has closed in the UK every three days. A cultural haven in one of the most deprived areas in the UK, SOUND IT OUT  documents a place that is thriving against the odds and the local community that keeps it alive. Directed by Jeanie Finlay who grew up three miles from the shop. The film depicts the irreplaceable role music plays in our lives..High Fidelity with a Northern Accent. Highly Recommended!

BLACK POWER MIXTAPE

Really looking forward to catch this amazing new documentary THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE 1967-1975 mobilizes a treasure trove of 16mm material shot by Swedish filmmakers, after languishing in a basement of a TV station for 30 years, into an irresistible mosaic of images, music, and narration chronicling the evolution one of America's most indelible turning points, the Black Power movement. Featuring candid interviews with the movement's most explosive revolutionary minds, including Angela Davis, Bobby Seale, Stokely Carmichael, and Kathleen Cleaver, the film explores the community, people and radical ideas of the movement.
Music by Questlove and Om'Mas Keith, and commentary from and modern voices including Erykah Badu, Harry Belafonte, Talib Kweli, and Melvin Van Peebles give the historical footage a fresh sound and make THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE an exhilarating, unprecedented account of an American revolution.

In 1971, in the midst of America's invasion of Vietnam, the U.S. Army held a show-band contest and showcased the two winning bands in a promotional album. ATCQ on screen

Just caught the sundance screener of the new docu-film directed by Michael Rapaport Beats Rhymes and Life: The Travels Of a Tribe Called Quest, charting the band's triumphant and turbulent 20-year career. ATCQ has been one of the most commercially successful and artistically significant musical groups in recent history, and regarded as iconic pioneers of hip hop. A must see travel around the groups up & downs.
I can still remember the buzz around the basement of the newly opened Black Market records in SoHo, London when their "Description of a Fool" promo dropped in the UK..

From July 8th around the US and soon the world!!

Dream of Drums..

A rare and unique assembly of some of the greatest drummers in the world. Explosive talent, passion, humour and irresistible personality come together in a magical setting when seven diverse drummers create a profound and unforgettable experience. You’ve never seen drummers like this before!
Featuring Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr, Dennis Chambers, Kenwood Dennard, Horacio “El-Negro” Hernadez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Mike Mangini and Raul Rekow, the film engages us with the rich music styles and influences that are as dynamic as the performers themselves. We are lifted to another dimension as we connect to the powerful forces of nature embodied in the music of these master musicians. The creative and spiritual freedom of expression these artists display is overwhelming – from Latin rhythms to the wildly original compositions of Kenwood Dennard. Rock, jazz, Latin fusion, soul – these master drummers have backed up the likes of Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Carlos Santana and now – each other.
At the center of the film is the warm-hearted Nasyr, and his musician friends who share their knowledge with forty students for this incredible, unforgettable week of music and camaraderie. The overriding philosophy of these musicians is driven by love, compassion and joy of life. At the end of the film you will be tapping the rhythms that live within us all and the positive energy these masters display will continue to pulse through you for days to come.

Sunday Matinee

This documentary film is not for the squeamish, but a real eye-opener. The Cove which covers the annual dolphin slaughter in a small town in Japan called Taiji (Wakayama Prefecture) drew international attention to the brutality of the hunt when it debuted in cinemas in the U.S., Europe, Oceania and other parts of Asia last summer. It has now been acquired by a Japanese distributor hoping to educate the Japanese population who remain largely unaware of the hunt. (Japanese)

The film, directed by Louie Psihoyos, contains footage of dolphins being brutally killed (be warned if you don't like to see such things) and points out that meat from the mammals has high levels of toxic methyl mercury.

The Elephant In The Room!

As we`ve reached the 8th anniversary of the 21st century’s most defining event so far, something to ponder from a couple of years ago but still relevent today.

The Elephant in the Room is a documentary following British filmmaker Dean Puckett through his journey into the 9/11 Truth Movement: a global movement of ‘alternative thinkers’ who believe that the official explanation about what happened on 9/11 is totally or partially inaccurate.

(The majority of the 9/11 Commission members have now publicly gone on record to express their conviction that the Bush government agreed to lie about the official story.)

The filmmakers travel from middle England, across Europe and to New York for the six year anniversary of the attacks, where the film takes one final twist as we are introduced to the 9/11 first responders who are suffering from various grave health difficulties due to the toxic dust that they breathed in trying to help their country during the weeks after this tragic event.

Told with a personal hands on approach that avoids advancing any one position, the film asks the question: are these crazy conspiracy thinkers? Or is 9/11 Truth a credible political movement?

You decide!!

Film: ZERO

ZERO : Europe for an Independent Inquiry into 9/11
On Tuesday 26th February, Euro-parlementarian Member Guilietto Chiesa invited his colleagues and the press to attend the screening and debate of the Italian-produced documentary named 'ZERO, an investigation into the events of 9/11'. Object of the film screening was to create political awareness of the faulty official investigation into the events by the 9/11 Commission. Which they feel is an instrument to create awareness and a means to provoke a political debate in Europe.

You Decide!!

ZERO: An Investigation into 9/11, has one central thesis - that the official version of the events surrounding the attacks on 9/11 can not be true. This brand new feature documentary from Italian production company Telemaco explores the latest scientific evidence and reveals dramatic new witness testimony, which directly conflicts with the US Government's account.Featuring presentations from ; Gore Vidal, and Noble Prize winner Dario Fo, the film challenges assumptions surrounding the attacks. In the words of the Italian daily newspaper, Il Corriere de da Sera, "What results is a sequence of contradictions, gaps, and omissions of stunning gravity." The importance of this film can not be overstated. If its thesis is correct, the justification for going to war in Iraq is built on a series of outrageous lies.

Rockers Galore.

Something to chill with on a sunday afternoon. Josh Cheuse is an incredible photographer who in the 80's shot everybody from The Clash to Run DMC. This little doc was made after he came out with his coffee table book "Rockers Galore."
