Sunday Matinee

This documentary film is not for the squeamish, but a real eye-opener. The Cove which covers the annual dolphin slaughter in a small town in Japan called Taiji (Wakayama Prefecture) drew international attention to the brutality of the hunt when it debuted in cinemas in the U.S., Europe, Oceania and other parts of Asia last summer. It has now been acquired by a Japanese distributor hoping to educate the Japanese population who remain largely unaware of the hunt. (Japanese)

The film, directed by Louie Psihoyos, contains footage of dolphins being brutally killed (be warned if you don't like to see such things) and points out that meat from the mammals has high levels of toxic methyl mercury.
