Something that was dropped into my lap last weekend and I really hadn't had a chance to digest it fully and you know anything with hard rock in the title normally puts me right off straight away, but this little comp from the Now-Again peeps really digs deep with a 70's untold story of various underground music scenes from Indonesia. Weather it be psychedelic, progressive rock or low down dirty funk, it's all here and this is my pick of the bunch.....Njoy!

'Uphill Peace Of Mind' Lifted from the 1976 LPG released LP 'Music...Music', Lloyd Price's cover of an earlier version by Frederick Knight. There's a bunch of other versions including Kid Dynamite's which was sampled on 'Shakiyla' by the Poor Righteous Brothers in '91. The UK's Carol Grimes and a great slow disco cover by Yvonne Elliman...But we like this version....Njoy!

So just 10 days to go to the greatest show on earth and the anticipation felt around the world is gathering excitement by the hour...As readers will know we at mt@o are avid followers of the beautiful game...or as our friends in the US would say 'what that game with 22 grown men kicking a ball around'...yes my dear cousins that game which is truly GLOBAL and brings people together like no other. Now for the tunes to go with, Next Stop Soweto Vol.2 is the second in STRUTrecords three-part compilation series showcasing ‘underground’ South African music of the 60's and 70's. Thanks to several years of painstaking research and vinyl archaeology by compilers Duncan Brooker and Francis Gooding they've uncovered some rare gems of SA soul, funk, R&B and psych sounds from a time when these unknown musicians plied their trade under an oppressive apartheid regime during the years before the tumultuous Soweto uprising of 1976...We're dropping 2 tracks from the comp a quality funky groover from the Soul Throbs with a track called 'Little Girl' and some uptempo boogie bizniz from The Heroes with 'Come With Me', just wish the tracks were longer, re-edits anyone?... An overall amazing collection of obscure South African music....An essential purchase to enjoy head-nodding during those half-time brakes,

So the financial crisis afflicting Greece and the rest of Europe is spiraling out of control as our so-called leaders agree to a nearly $1 trillion, yeah you read that right, ONE FREAKING TRILLION DOLLARS rescue package of taxpayers money aimed at helping out the weak Euro economies..and as we keep printing money out of thin air the only result will be hyper-inflation on the same scale as Germany in the 3T's...It's gonna get rough out there people.

So what if we all just stopped funding our Governments who in turn are bending over backwards for the criminal banksters to shaft us some more?.....Just a thought!

Lifted from his Capitol Records 1978 LP "New Warrior" but also released as a 7" promo..."groove, (aint no doubt about it)" is one of those tunes that used to rock the old london warehouse parties in the 8T`s..
As well as Keyboardist Lyle the LP was produced by Wayne Henderson and included a top A-list of players - Harvey Mason, Sunship, Paulinho Da Costa, Roland Bautista, Joe Blocker, Nathaniel Philips, David T. Walker and Michael Boddicker, plus background vocals by Ron Banks, Gregory Matta, Augie Johnson, Jim Gilstrap, Vance Tenort, Alexandra Brown, Angela Winbush, Martinette Jenkins and Stephanie Spruill...Pheww!

(original copies going @ $125 large ones).....Enjoy!

Coming on the flipside of Timothy McNearly`s own SHAWN label track "Funky Movement No.2". The Laid back flutey funk of "Sagittarius Black" is in my humble mind so much better. The New York Record label ZE gets a richly deserved retrospective look back across its catalogue of mutant post-punk funk to warped disco from 1979 to 2009, Courtesy of Strut Records. ZE`s roster of artists was truly eclectic for the times, ranging from Suicide, Was (Not Was), Bill Laswell`s Material and Kid Creole.....And it`s this Kid Creole with COATI MUNDI track that always bring such memories for me bouncing around to DJock`s Jay Strongman & Mark Moore dropping the tunes at the Wharehouse club in London`s Electric Ballroom during the 8T`s....A big hit back in those days....Enjoy!

Regarded as one of the greatest funk jams ever..Ernie Vincent Williams, the man behind Ernie & The Top Notes, Inc, wrote and produced "Dap Walk" in 1972... Original copies on Fordom changing hands on ebay for $500/600...Re-issued by Stones Throw Records on The funky 16 corners compilation.

Funky Film Soundtracks #4

As we have been delving into the funky soundtracks of 7T's

blaxploitation movies on here, word reaches mytea@om that the UK's Soul Jazz records massive will soon release a double CD/vinyl compilation titled Can You Dig it? "The Music and Politics of Black Action Films 1969-75" . Will post something about it later, but here we continue with the classic kung-fu movie starring bad-boy Jim 'Enter The Dragon' Kelly and Gloria Hendry.

This soundtrack is really one you should try and obtain a copy of, It has loads of amazing dialogue and fight sound effects woven into the funky instrumentals - The killer main theme track featured here with the sound effects version that always brings a smile to my face. A perfect soundtrack in my opinon!

Dennis Coffey The funky guitar genius composed and conducted the soundtrack alongside Luchi De Jesus. Originally released on the Weintraub-Heller label 1974.
