Simmerdown

Released 28th February , 'Simmerdown' is the first single to be lifted from Producer Benedic Lamdin's new Nostalgia 77 album, 'The Sleepwalking Society', on Brighton's finest label TruThoughts. Both the album and this single feature the stunning vocals of German singer Josa Peit whose stunning vocals recall some of the best jazz vocalists of the past....Summer's coming, lovely!!!

ill communication

The last pick from our jazz session from the wonderful double bassist and oud player, Ahmed Abdul-Malik's LP "jazz sounds of africa" A combination of "the music of ahmed abdul- malik" and his 1962 "Sounds of Africa" LP's, fusing the west african sounds of 'highlife' into intriguing jazz compositions...Awesome stuff!

Around 3/4 Time

Feel to share more of that Sunday all day jazz session at mytea@om HQ, when the kids are away the cats come out to play so to speak, something for REAL JAZHEDZ. The Jazz Quintet-60's groove is very similar to that of the Legendary Jazz Messengers. An ultra-hip Danish combo with players, Bent Axen on piano, Allan Botschinsky on trumpet, Niels Husum on tenor, Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass, and Bjarn Rostvold on drums...The Original LP is a bit of a rarity these days...Enjoy!

Well what a game between the oranjemen & brasilians yesterday, the best and probably the dirtiest so far in my honest opinion. The oranje just didn`t let the samba boys into their groove after drawing level...Dropping a version of the Hugh Masekela penned track with Phil Moore III on piano, the afro latin soultet of Joe Pass on guitar, Hadley Caliman on tenor and flute, Francisco Aquabella on percussion and with Leni Groves warm soulful vocals bringing out the best on this mellow latin jazz version of "What Is Wrong With Grooving" from the `67 released Tower label album "Afro Brazil OBA!

Sita Sings The Blues

Has an interesting mix of animation, Indonesian shadow puppet work and 1920's era jazz. Animator Nina Paley's indulges us in her own interpretation of the Hindu epic Ramayana
"the greatest break-up story ever told" and set it to the 1920's jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw to imaginative effect...The eclectic cultural tapestry that is Sita Sings the Blues, is an 82-minute feature that combines autobiography with a retelling of the classic Indian myth..Betty Boop rocks and you know it!

Sunday Matinee

A compelling look into the spirits and circumstances of ten of his acclaimed rivals.Pete McCormack "Uganda Rising" and producer Derik Murray "Legends of Hockey" shoot an excellent insight into Ali's career from the viewpoint of his opponents. A riveting documentary with a superb soundtrack.

mixtape - sayurideep

Here`s a recent mytea@om mixtape to share courtesy of a lovely young friend and a sweetheart to boot Sayuri-chan....I made this up for her birthday and she has kindly given me permission to post it up for all of you guys & gals....so go on, indulge yourself in a little (winter or summer as the case may be) boogie around the house. Starting off with some percussive beats, gently into the dubby techno, thru the deep house and exiting with jazz..

Enjoy!

Fred & Ted

The second slab of 4/4 jazzy techno, coming down the pipe this week. A double A sided Dutch released on the Rejected label finds Fred on the Trumpet and Ted on the Clarinet....The 12" is called "Hotlips" with Edwin Oosterwal and his buddy Warren Fellow penning the title track, but its the flip that`s touch my soul....The finger snapping & horn stabs are just infectiously funky and an oboe break slowly comes through the souk, riding the groove! If your also feelin` it support the artist/label and buy the vinyl here or direct from Rejected.......One for the belly dancers out there!

Physical Sunset.

A couple of jazzy house/techno tracks that`s ringing my bells at the moment, courtesy of beatport.
First up (2nd in a few days) is this wonderfully sublime B-side bizniz that could easily be the sound of summer, could see this being huge in Ibiza...written & produced by Thomas Schumacher Outta Berlin. The tracks called "Sunset" from The Ooh EP, released on GetPhysicalMusic A very simple percussive, latin jazz groove with this mad Cuban style big band breakdown that`s off the hook....Enjoy!

Thomas is appearing at Barcelona’s International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art - Sonar 09, if your going to the festival make sure to check him out.
