Sunday Matinee

This documentary film is not for the squeamish, but a real eye-opener. The Cove which covers the annual dolphin slaughter in a small town in Japan called Taiji (Wakayama Prefecture) drew international attention to the brutality of the hunt when it debuted in cinemas in the U.S., Europe, Oceania and other parts of Asia last summer. It has now been acquired by a Japanese distributor hoping to educate the Japanese population who remain largely unaware of the hunt. (Japanese)

The film, directed by Louie Psihoyos, contains footage of dolphins being brutally killed (be warned if you don't like to see such things) and points out that meat from the mammals has high levels of toxic methyl mercury.

Anger and defiance in Taiji after 'Cove' wins Oscar

Golden Dream

In a vintage soundtrack studio somewhere in Paris previously inhabited by the likes of Nina Simone and Serge Gainsbourg and many others.
Mocky that chameleon-like cult figure of leftfield music, multi-instrumentalist playing drums, bass, rhodes, piano, guitar, percussion, bells, recorder, vocals, whistle, organ and toys as well as writing the string arrangements, produces a new future jazz/imaginary soundtrack/retro classic, that must be heard.
Equally soothing for the winter months or basking on sun drenched beaches..enjoy!

Mocky - golden dream

As we have been delving into the funky soundtracks of 7T's
blaxploitation movies on here, word reaches mytea@om that the UK's Soul Jazz records massive will soon release a double CD/vinyl compilation titled Can You Dig it? Funky Film Soundtracks # 3

Digging into the soundtrack crates again and coming up with some quality pimping soul from the man Edwin Starr. The US soul singer who had lived in the UK since around the time of this release until his passing in 2003 and is still a legend on the Northern Soul scene there. This track lifted from "Hell Up In Harlem" OST released on Motown records in 1973, "Easin`in" is a finger snappin`, infectious bad arse bass slappin`, stormer of a track! It was sampled by Tone Loc on his track "Loc`d After Dark" . Apparently James Brown was first asked to do the composition for this film, following on from his work on the previous "Black Caesar", but it was rejected, which led JB to release it as that Legendary LP "The PayBack"......Enjoy!

Funky Film Soundtracks # 2

Lifted from the 1977 soundtrack album of the obscure blaxploitation martial arts film directed by Timothy Galfas & Richard Kaye . The original working title was to be "The Black Streetfighter" and the tagline was "The Big Bad Black Dude of the Streets... He'll bust you up, slam you down and blast you into pieces!" starring Richard Lawson in the lead.
You can see the whole film HERE.

The soundtrack is a mixture of poor quality disco tracks but has some great late 70s funky instrumentals, However the album has a quite raw feel to it that is sure to please the groove afficinados amongst you...Enjoy!
